Our Whānau host 1 day Wānanga Pounamu and are committed to sharing some of the mātauranga we have received during our 30 years with this ancient stone our people revered.
Participants have the opportunity to tune themselves to their taonga pounamu using ancient takutaku and mahitahi (handworking in a collective setting), through the use of Hine Hoanga they bring alive the true beauty of Poutini, finishing in the whiri (plaiting) where by each participant leaves wearing their hei taonga pounamu.
These wānanga are about creating a relationship between the tangata (person) the whakapapa of Poutini and the esoteric understanding of the origins of Pounamu. The healing nature of the stone and it's relationship to the wearer is also explored to give a full understanding of each person’s taonga.
Food and refreshments are included.
